So hot

Captain's Log - Day 24

Today was unbelievably hot.

The air was thick with a visible humidity that coated our throats as we breathed. The smell was rough too. The lakes we were passing through were calm to the point of stagnation. After much non-scientific discussion, Simon and I believe that the scores of dead fish we saw floating on top of the water were killed by the heat!  (Those little white dots are dead fish.) As you can imagine, this only bolstered the stench.

We're docked at Joe Wheeler State Park Marina in slip 610. We lucked out and arrived on Italian nigh! The buffet included salad, hot wings, spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, and peach cobbler. The buffet did not look great. Normally I wouldn't have looked twice, but evidently your food standards change after three and a half weeks on a boat! It was delicious!

They had showers too, but we didn't use them - just swam around in the pool for a bit! The chlorine probably did us good!

I'm a bit surprised that no one has asked, yet, about how I'm able to post to the blog everyday. The secret to our internet connectivity is a Verizon MiFi 2200. This thing is incredible! We're getting internet in places that AT&T has never even heard of! Well done, Verizon.

This heat really takes it out of you. Maybe I'll write more tomorrow ...
